TIMES for the
SPRING FLING COMBINED TEST & DRESSAGE SHOW
MARCH 13, 2010

THE SHOW IS CANCELLED
WE TRIED!
Because our arenas and XC field drain well,
and because we had all worked hard
--compacting the arenas, clearing the drains, etc. --
we thought we were in good shape.
Despite all the rain we have been having, at 1 PM today
things were looking good!  The tents and dressage arenas  were set up, the programs printed and packets stuffed,
the music programmed and steward reports run, etc., etc.,
BUT
the two downpours this afternoon,
on already saturated land
were too much for us.
The parking, the warm-up areas, the XC field, and finally even the arenas are saturated with standing water on top.

We have cancelled, as we indicated we would if weather
made riding unsafe or unpleasant.

We will be sending an email with the details of the weather cancellation policy for this show ASAP.
If you don't receive that email within a day please contact us.

We want to thank each and everyone of you for your support and your calls of concern.
We were really looking forward to seeing you all this weekend!

RAIN CANCELLATION POLICY FOR THIS SHOW
Due to the extraordinary amount of rain this winter,
we have changed our rain policy for this show only.
In general our policy has been to run a show despite inclement weather
unless it is unsafe, or the footing is unrideable.
However, for this show we will cancel if the weather is cold, wet and miserable.
If we cancel we will refund the entire entry fee minus a $15 admin/set up fee.

REMINDER: DO NOT USE MAPQUEST or GPS DEVICES FOR DIRECTIONS TO THE FARM

PRINTABLE MAP TO ASHLAND FARM
PLEASE DO NOT USE MAP QUEST or TRUST GPS DEVICES.
Somehow, somewhere in the depths of the map IT world, our location is off by about 15 miles!

Our Summer Pace, similar to our Hunter Pace in the Fall, is an opportunity to ride out with friends,

going fast or slow, jumping or going around the jumps, and to have a grand time doing it.

But the Summer Pace serves a larger purpose in that it coincides with National Trails Day and the Equestrian Land Conservation Resource organization’s efforts to raise awareness about the growing crisis of

loss of land for horse related activities.

Our event reflects upon these efforts and attempts to focus attention on the need to address this crisis

locally: from private farms such as ours, working hard to hold on to the land to keep it from being

developed, to more publicly accessible lands.

But who says you can’t be serious and have fun at the same time?

Disguised as a competition, the winners are those in each division who come in at the time closest to

the optimum time.  The optimum time is roughly determined by the speed at which a fox hunter would

safely negotiate the terrain.  The optimum time is predetermined.

 (A walk = 100-120 mpm; Trot = 220-240 mpm; Canter = 350-400 mpm)

DEFINITION OF DIVISIONS

All divisions are ridden in teams of two or more, except for the Coyote Run. The competition is judged on time. The winners are those who complete their ride in the time closest to the optimum (NOT THE FASTEST) time. Each division's course will be clearly marked, and there will be spotters along the way.
 All jumps are optional.

Wading
Wood-Ducks
*

(Walk) Approximately 2 Kilometers: This is timed at a leisurely walk. The purpose is to enjoy the beautiful surroundings, stop to look around, and have time to chat with your teammates. This division is approximately a mile long, and has no water crossings.

Trotting Turkeys*

(Walk/Trot) Approximately 5 Kilometers: This is ridden at a brisk walk and trot. You still have time to look around, just don't be too leisurely. There will be small obstacles on course. You may jump them for fun or go around them. This division is approximately 5 Kilometers long. (May have a water crossing.)

Flying Falcons*

(Walk/Trot/Canter) Approximately 10 Kilometers: This is done at a walk, trot, and canter. You might be able to see your surroundings at a glance. Take a quick look because they will fly right on by. Obstacles are optional—you may jump them for fun or go around. Division will be approx 10 Kilometers long, with 2 water crossings.

WHY NOT ADD A COYOTE* RUN!

A 1000 meter cross country course to be ridden at 350 mpm.
 Has 8 - 10 obstacles ranging from 18" to 3' 3"

All jumps are optional.
Judged only on optimum time (350 mpm)
(Optimum is NOT the fastest time!)

A great tune up for your next recognized event
And it's fun!
